We previously talked to you about how to motivate your children to read. However, you also need to setup the right conditions to prevent your children getting fatigued and become reluctant to carry out this activity.  Luckily, there are many things you can do to improve their reading environment. For this reason at The Tutoring Center in Hillsborough, we created the following post containing useful advice on this often neglected topic.

Light

The first step is finding a place in your home that has plenty natural light, however you should also add a lamp to prevent eye strains. It’s recommended to use a 40-60 watt bulb to prevent glares. Remember that the book should be kept about 18 inches from the eyes. If your children get fatigued while the read, take them to the optometrist to find out whether they need glasses.

Position

Finding a comfortable chair or sofa is crucial, as a comfortable position will prevent any overuse injuries and will help them to stay attentive. Remember that stale air and warm temperatures will put your children and everyone to sleep. So, don’t forget to open the doors to improve the airflow and remember that a cool temperature will keep your children alert.

Distractions

Lastly, you can boost your children’s attention by removing any distractions from the reading space. Keep in mind that you should keep electronic devices away from the reading space, which will claim their attention and make their mind wander.

These simple ideas will make your children enjoy their books in the right environment that this activity demands. Plus, it’s the perfect way to motivate them to grab a book, as reading is strongly linked to better opportunities in life.
