28% of children between the ages of 3 and 17 have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, and the numbers continue to grow. If you are currently raising a child with ADHD, then you know it can sometimes be difficult to capture and keep their attention. You hopefully also know that there are many resources available to you, in order to help you understand and ensure the happiness of yourself and your child. The Tutoring Center in Hillsborough is well equipped with dedicated and professional tutors who are able to help even the most distractible of students. Today, we would like to provide a few tips for you  to use within the home, in order to help your child with ADHD, to function more healthily and happily.

Healthy Living

As we are sure you are aware, a healthy lifestyle should be something you desire for yourself and your child. Living well can help increase brain function and happiness throughout your life. Here are three suggestions to help you live healthier and happier.

Exercise and Play
The importance here does not lie in what is being done for physical activity, as long as your child is enjoying the activity and getting plenty of physical exercise. You may choose to enroll your child in organized sports, dance, martial arts, or some other physical form of expression.

Eating Well
A diet low in sugar and high in nutrients is essential for your child, especially one who is affected by ADHD. You know that your child has trouble in focusing and gathering his or her thoughts, imagine that this will be slightly lessened by reducing the amount of sugar intake your child has. Not only that, but nutrient rich foods are going to be essential for brain development.

Sleeping Well
Remember that your child could have certain sleep preferences, just like you. It is not only about the quantity of sleep, but quality is equally important. Consider asking your child questions about what is important to him or her while sleeping. Think about the lighting, noise, and softness or firmness necessary for their bed. Try to be as accommodating as possible to ensure your child the best sleep achievable.

Routine and Structure

Though it is true that all of us can benefit from routing and structure, it is even more of an essential for a child with ADHD. As he or she may have trouble exhibiting self control or living up to time constraints, a routine is a wonderful addition to his or her life. Allow your child to understand what is expected, when, where, and even how. Use a calendar that they can refer to if they have trouble remembering, and make sure that you stick to the schedule as much as possible.

Remember, that the 2-3 weeks it takes for the development of habits, might very well be extended for a child with ADHD. Do not lose hope. You will see results, but you must be patient. When you are starting to see the results you desire, you might find that it is still necessary to have some extra help in an academic area for your child. This is exactly what The Tutoring Center is here to help you with! Give us a call at, (908) 829-4253 if you’re in need of tutoring in Hillsborough.
